Quick facts

  • USATF certified course on lightly trafficked rural farm roads.
  • Two-lap format shares the loop with the 10K field.
  • Three hour time limit, so the half is for runners rather than walkers.
  • Club-organized race with modest entry fees and finisher awards.

About the ORRC Pumpkin Ridge Run Half Marathon

The Oregon Road Runners Club has put on the Pumpkin Ridge Run in North Plains since the early 2010s, and it keeps the feel of a true club race: low fees, finisher awards, and a no-frills start at the local elementary school about 30 minutes west of Portland.

Course

The half marathon runs the certified 10K loop twice, a counterclockwise circuit of rural farm roads with a short out-and-back near the end of each lap. Traffic is light and the rollers are modest, but the second lap is mentally quiet with little crowd support.

Race-day weather

Early August mornings in the Tualatin Valley are usually dry and cool, often in the mid 50s at the 7 a.m. start. The sun builds quickly over open farmland, so the closing miles can feel much warmer than the first lap.
