Philly Mayor's Cup Half Marathon
Philadelphia running clubs score points instead of individuals at this Belmont Plateau trail half, where five distances share one August start line.
Quick facts
- Club scoring with no individual winners, and a Free Agents team for unattached runners.
- Two Fairmount Park trail loops plus a grass plateau lap and a short road section.
- Half marathon starts at 6:30 am, ahead of four shorter distances.
- Parking on the plateau is very limited and SEPTA bus routes are the recommended approach.
About the Philly Mayor's Cup Half Marathon
The Mayor's Cup is a club competition that happens to be a race. Everyone enters for a Philadelphia club, or as a Free Agent if they do not have one, and the top finishers from each club score toward the team title. Five distances go off from the same Belmont Plateau start and finish.
Course
The half covers two loops of semi technical Fairmount Park trail plus an extra lap of the grass plateau. Roughly three quarters of a mile is road and about two miles are grass, and the rolling singletrack makes even splits unlikely no matter how the day is going.
Race-day weather
Early August in Philadelphia is hot and humid, which is why the half goes off at 6:30 am. Tree cover on the trail loops helps; the open plateau sections do not.
