Minocqua No Frills Marathon

This race takes its name seriously. Entry buys a timed marathon on the Bearskin State Trail with aid stations and not much else, and the small field trades big-race production for quiet miles through Wisconsin's Northwoods. Half marathon, 5K, and marathon relay options share the same morning.

The marathon runs out and back on the Bearskin State Trail, a former rail line that stays flat and mostly shaded. The race starts in downtown Minocqua and finishes on the trestle over the water, and the consistent grade keeps pacing simple even where the trail surface asks a bit more than pavement.

Early September in northern Wisconsin often starts in the 50s and stays comfortable under tree cover. Warm, humid afternoons are possible, so the later miles can feel harder for anyone still out past midday.
