About the Medieval Marathon
The Medieval Marathon is the full-distance race in Kilkenny's September running festival. Its castle-city setting gives the opening and finish character, while most of the work happens on quieter roads beyond the center.
Course
The road route leaves central Kilkenny for surrounding countryside before returning to the riverside finish. Rolling grades and sparse support outside town reward self-managed effort and fueling.
Race-day weather
Early autumn in southeast Ireland is generally mild, but showers and wind can appear at any point. Damp pavement and a headwind make the exposed rural miles feel longer.
