Quick facts
- Marathon starts at 5 a.m. Sunday, an hour ahead of the half.
- Seven pace-based waves, chosen at entry.
- Minimum age is 20 for the marathon.
- Timing closes at noon, with cutoffs at km 14 and km 25.3.
Course
Every distance starts and finishes on the Esplanada dos Ministérios beside the ministry blocks. Marathoners choose a target pace at entry and are seeded into seven color-coded waves, from under 4:00 per km to slower than 6:30, leaving between 5:00 and 5:20. Organizers bill it as one of Brazil's flattest courses, measured by World Athletics and AIMS. Water comes at 16 points, with isotonic and fruit stops near 15, 25 and 35 km. Runners must reach km 14 within 2:20 and km 25.3 within 4:00 of the last wave's start, and the overall limit is six and a half hours.
Race-day weather
The 5 a.m. start is the main defense against the sun, which gets strong over Brasília's wide, open avenues by mid-morning. Spring can bring showers too, and timing shuts down at noon whatever the conditions.
