Course
The full marathon uses roads through Sandakan and the surrounding area, with race operations based at Sandakan Sports Complex. A start shortly after midnight puts much of the effort in darkness; the full-distance cutoff allows seven hours.
Race-day weather
Expect humid tropical conditions even before sunrise. Rain is possible, and the overnight start reduces sun exposure without removing the need to manage heat and fluid intake.
