About the Jersey Shore Half Marathon
Shore Athletic Club has kept this race going for more than five decades, and it still runs like a club event in the best sense: simple logistics, a fast field up front, and a course picked for speed rather than spectacle. The event traces back to the original Jersey Shore Marathon of the early 1970s.
Course
Two flat loops on the Sandy Hook peninsula inside Gateway National Recreation Area. There is almost no elevation to manage, so the race comes down to pacing and wind. The loop format makes it easy to track competitors and split evenly.
Race-day weather
Early October at the shore usually sits in the 50s and 60s. The peninsula is exposed, so ocean wind is the main variable, and a headwind stretch on each loop is common.
