About the Iron Horse Half Marathon

Orca Running's Iron Horse Half has been voted the best half in Washington multiple times, and it earns the reputation with a USATF-certified rail-trail course in the Snoqualmie Valley. Wave starts, pacers from 1:30 to 2:20, and a finish-to-start shuttle keep the point-to-point format easy to manage.

Course

The route runs entirely on hard-packed dirt and gravel along a former rail corridor, climbing gently for the first four miles before nine miles of net downhill to the finish. Grades stay shallow the whole way, so trail shoes are optional and even pacing pays off.

Race-day weather

Late August mornings in the Snoqualmie Valley are usually cool, often starting in the 50s under valley cloud. Warmth builds slowly, and tree cover shades much of the trail.
