About the Inca Trail Marathon

This is a supported high-altitude race tour built around one of Peru's toughest marathon days. The current route changed in 2023 and does not use the four-day Classic Inca Trail or finish at Machu Picchu, despite the durable race name.

Course

Between Salkantay and Humantay, steep ascents and descents create thousands of feet of vertical change. Maximum altitude exceeds 15,200 feet, and at least four aid stations support a measured route with marathon distance and ultra-level effort.

Race-day weather

August is typically dry in the high Andes, but the altitude creates sharp temperature swings. Runners should expect a cold start, strong ultraviolet exposure, wind on the passes, and warmer conditions lower down.
