About the Honor Run Half Marathon
Honor Flight Tri State is the reason this race exists. Money raised across the half, 10K, and 5K goes toward flying Northern Kentucky and greater Cincinnati veterans to the Washington DC memorials, and several hundred have made the trip since the race started. The field is regional rather than large, and Veterans Day weekend gives race morning a tone closer to tribute than festival.
Course
The half starts under the Florence Y'all water tower at Florence Mall, circles the mall for the opening mile, then runs north on Houston Road past the city golf course and Turfway Park. It reads as rolling rather than hilly, but the climbs land where they cost the most, near mile 2 and again around 8, 10.5, and 12. Aid stations are frequent and well stocked.
Race-day weather
Mid November mornings in Northern Kentucky often start near freezing and climb into the 40s or 50s by the time the half finishes. Wind is usually the bigger variable, especially on the open commercial roads north of the mall.
