About the Hernando Water Tower Half Marathon
Hernando bills itself as Mississippi's Front Porch, and the Town Square race has been part of the local October calendar for well over a decade. The 10K is the older and larger event. The half marathon is the newer addition, aimed at Memphis-area runners who want a fall road race without driving far.
Course
Start and finish sit on the historic Town Square. The route threads tree-lined neighborhoods, passes the 1925 water tower the race is named for, then opens onto quieter rural roads outside town before turning back toward the square. Half marathon runners need to reach the 10 mile mark by 11 a.m., and the course closes at noon.
Race-day weather
Early October in north Mississippi usually means a start in the 50s or low 60s with humidity that has not fully broken for the season. On the exposed rural stretches the sun matters more than the air temperature by the closing miles.
