Course
The marathon starts with some gravel road before moving into the trails around Unicoi State Park and the surrounding mountains. Climbs are a major part of the experience, and the day is closer to sustained trail work than to any kind of forgiving runnable road course.
Race-day weather
North Georgia in mid-April can be comfortable at the start and still turn muggy or warm once climbing and sun exposure stack up. Trail footing can also change fast if the area gets rain.
