YMCA Harrisburg Half Marathon

The Harrisburg Area YMCA has run this race for three decades and pairs it with a November marathon on the same City Island footprint. The half is by far the larger of the two, drawing 450 to 550 finishers, and the mix skews toward first timers and runners hunting a flat September time rather than travelers.

The course starts and finishes on City Island in the middle of the Susquehanna and spends most of its distance along Riverfront Park in downtown Harrisburg. Elevation change is minimal, the bridge crossings are short, and the layout repeats enough that pacing discipline matters more than terrain here.

Mid September mornings in Harrisburg are usually mild, in the 50s or low 60s at the 8:00 start. Humidity coming off the river is the thing to watch, since the open riverfront miles offer almost no shade once the sun is up.
