About the Half Marathon-by-the-Sea
One of the longer-running races on the YuKan Run calendar, this September half pulls a steady four to five hundred finishers from across eastern Massachusetts. It has the feel of a well-practiced club race rather than a destination event, with the same weekend slot year after year.
Course
The USATF certified loop starts and finishes at Manchester Essex High School, drops through the historic downtown, then heads inland past the fresh water lakes around Hamilton before turning back toward the coast. Rollers are constant rather than severe, so the course rewards even effort over a hard early split.
Race-day weather
Mid September on the North Shore usually means a cool start with ocean air, then a quick warm-up once the sun clears the trees. Humidity left over from summer is the most common complaint.
