About the Grand Island Trail Marathon
Grand Island Trail Runs stages this remote marathon from Williams Landing under Aravaipa's Great Lakes Endurance program. The ferry approach makes race-day logistics part of a memorable Upper Peninsula outing.
Course
The 26.2-mile trail route follows the island's perimeter through forest, shoreline, beaches and sandstone-cliff scenery. Natural surfaces and isolated stretches demand more self-management than an urban marathon.
Race-day weather
Late July beside Lake Superior can be pleasantly cool or turn warm and humid, with lake wind and rain possible. Conditions may differ sharply between exposed shoreline and sheltered forest.
