About the Germantown 50K

The Ohio River Road Runners Club has staged this 50K for more than 30 editions, and it still runs like a club race: a modest entry fee, race-day packet pickup at the Cottonwood shelter, and wildlife patches for finishers. A two-person relay option lets newer trail runners split the distance at two loops apiece.

Course

Four loops of roughly 7.75 miles start and finish at the Cottonwood shelter in Germantown MetroPark. Each lap moves through cedar forest, open prairie, old-growth timber, and the hills above Twin Creek, adding up to about 3,000 feet of climbing. Three aid stations cover the loop, and an early start gives slower runners extra room before the afternoon loop cutoff.

Race-day weather

Mid-September in southwest Ohio usually starts in the 50s and climbs into the 70s. Summer humidity can linger, and the loops alternate between shaded forest and open prairie, so sun exposure builds on the later laps.
