Quick facts
- USATF certified loop course inside Rockland Lake State Park.
- Prize money plus an elite athlete program with complimentary entries.
- Three aid stations on course carrying water and Gatorade.
- Arriving before 8am avoids paying the state park admission fee.
Course
The USATF certified route circles Rockland Lake inside the state park, repeating the loop until the distance is covered. Total gain sits near 135 feet, and the spread between the highest and lowest point on the course is about 15 feet.
Race-day weather
Early October in the lower Hudson Valley leans cool and dry, often in the 40s and 50s at the gun. Sun exposure builds on the open lakeside stretches as the morning goes on.
About the Empire State Half Marathon
Garden State Track Club built this race around one goal, a fast time, and the entry is open to anyone rather than club members. Prize money and an elite athlete program pull a competitive front end, while most of the field shows up because the lake loop removes almost every excuse about terrain.
