Quick facts
- Paved rail trail out and back on a USATF certified half marathon course.
- Counts toward series points in the Race the Region northwest Indiana calendar.
- Chip timing with mats at both the start line and the finish.
- All entries are handled online; there is no separate walk-up registration process.
Course
Start and finish are at Dogwood Park, with nearly the whole distance on the paved Prairie Duneland Trail. The out and back layout stays flat, and the half marathon carries USATF certification IN20016TDK.
Race-day weather
Late October in northwest Indiana usually means starts in the 40s with wind pushing in off Lake Michigan. Deciding what to wear at the start line matters more here than managing heat.
About the Duneland Half Marathon
Chesterton's fall half sits on the Race the Region calendar, a northwest Indiana series that spreads its points races across several towns and courses. The field runs a couple hundred deep, entry fees stay low by half marathon standards, and proceeds back the local high school cross country programs.
