About the Dragons Den Half Marathon
This is San Antonio's self-styled toughest half, run in the heat of August at Pearsall Park on the city's south side. The draw is the challenge itself: steep park hills, mostly unpaved footing, and a finish-line turkey leg. Runners who want a flat PR course should look elsewhere, which is the point.
Course
The two-loop course uses Pearsall Park's trails and dirt paths off the Leon Creek Greenway, with very little pavement and about 1,000 feet of total climbing. Some grades are steep enough to force walking. Aid stations sit roughly every mile with ice water, cold electrolytes, and iced towels, a nod to how hard the conditions run.
Race-day weather
Mid-August in San Antonio is the hottest stretch of the year. Even at the 6:30 AM start, temperatures are usually in the mid 70s with high humidity, and the second loop runs warmer than the first. Treat it as a heat race, not a time trial.
