Colt State Park Half Marathon
Capped at 500 runners, this flat Rhode Island half runs two long loops along Narragansett Bay with a 3.5 hour limit and open exposure to the wind.
Quick facts
- Hard 500-runner cap, and recent editions have finished close to that number.
- Two long loops rather than a single circuit, with Surprise Hill the one notable climb.
- 3.5 hour course limit, which rules the race out for slower walkers.
- Almost entirely flat, with wind off Narragansett Bay the main variable.
About the Colt State Park Half Marathon
Ocean State Running keeps the entry list small on purpose, partly to limit the impact on the state park. The result is a race that fills with local and regional runners chasing fast times, and the cap is a genuine constraint rather than a marketing line.
Course
Two loops of roughly 6.5 miles each, run on park paths, the seawall, a section of the East Bay Bike Path, and streets in downtown Bristol. Surprise Hill early in each loop is the only real climb. Everything else is flat and fast, though the water views come with almost no wind protection.
Race-day weather
Early November on Narragansett Bay is cold at the start and usually stays cool. Wind off the water is the deciding factor, and the exposed seawall stretch can feel very different from the sheltered park paths.
