About the Dam Site Half Marathon
Started in 2020 when most races were cancelled, the Dam Site Run stuck around because the date works: the leaves turn just as central Illinois cools off. It remains a single-distance event with chip timing and a no single-use plastics policy, down to paper cups at the water stops.
Course
The race starts at Black Locust Beach in Moraine View State Recreation Area and uses quiet park and rural roads. The certified 13.1 is the only distance on the day, so the field spreads early and stays thin, and fall color is the main scenery.
Race-day weather
The start of November in central Illinois often means a cold start in the 30s and a finish in the 40s or 50s. Wind across open farmland can bite, and gloves at the start are rarely a mistake.
