About the Schaumburg Turkey Trot Half Marathon
All Community Events has run this Thanksgiving weekend race since 2009 and it has grown into one of the larger holiday halves around Chicago. The Schaumburg name is historical. The start now sits inside the Ned Brown Preserve in Elk Grove Village, a few minutes east.
Course
The route stays on the paved trail network inside Busse Woods, running the shoreline of Busse Lake and the wooded eastern edge of the preserve. It is flat and certified, which makes it a legitimate personal best course, with the usual forest preserve caveats about path width and wet leaves.
Race-day weather
Late November in northern Illinois can deliver anything from the 20s to the 50s. Wind across the open lake sections is the dependable problem, and shaded trail can hold ice after a cold night.
