About the City to the Sea Half Marathon
This is the Central Coast's signature half, run by the San Luis Distance Club and shaped by its finish location rather than its clock. Runners end at the ocean in Avila Beach, which makes the shuttle and gear logistics worth the extra planning.
Course
The route leaves Mission Plaza in downtown San Luis Obispo, moves onto quiet country backroads, then picks up the paved Bob Jones Trail for the run down to Avila Beach. It is point-to-point and trends toward the coast, so the finish arrives with the ocean in view.
Race-day weather
A 7:00 October start on the Central Coast usually means cool air and marine layer near the water. Fog can hold into the later miles, and the inland middle section is where the sun tends to break through first.
