About the Malibu Moves Half Marathon
A young event by Southern California standards, built around closed lanes of PCH and a Zuma Beach finish festival. It has grown quickly, and fundraising has gone to local schools and wildfire relief. The half is the anchor distance in a weekend that also includes a Saturday evening mile.
Course
The route is an out-and-back on Pacific Coast Highway between Zuma Beach and Nicholas Canyon, with ocean on one shoulder for essentially the whole race. It is not flat. The rollers are long and well graded rather than steep, which makes it easier to run than a hill profile suggests, but it does punish anyone who treats the outbound half as free speed.
Race-day weather
Late October mornings in Malibu often start under marine layer around 60 degrees. The clouds usually burn off partway through, and on a Santa Ana weekend the return leg can turn hot and dry with no shade anywhere on PCH.
