About the Cape Fear River Run Half Marathon
The city built this race around its riverside greenway, and it is young enough that the field is still climbing edition to edition. The half is the long race on a morning that also runs a 10K, with a combined double entry for runners who want to race both.
Course
The out and back follows the paved Cape Fear River Trail from the Botanical Garden, passing under two covered rail trestles and a small waterfall before the turnaround near mile seven. It measures slightly long at about 13.25 miles, and the greenway is tree-lined and narrow in stretches.
Race-day weather
Early November in the Sandhills usually gives a cool start in the forties or fifties with little wind under the tree cover. Conditions rarely become the limiting factor here, which is part of why the race sits where it does on the calendar.
