About the Bluegrass Half Marathon
The Goose Chase has kept this race on the Johnson City calendar for well over a decade, and the relay option is a real part of its identity rather than a side product. Individual entries run a few hundred deep, with a couple dozen relay teams sharing the same course and exchange zones.
Course
The certified route is closer to a set of connected loops than a clean out and back. Runners take in the Mountain Home area, the medical center, and the ETSU campus before finishing at Founders Park. Total climb sits around 500 feet, with rolling ground rather than long grinds, and the frequent turns keep it out of PR-course territory.
Race-day weather
Late September in the Tri-Cities usually gives a cool start and a mild finish. Humidity is the variable that matters, especially on the exposed campus stretches later in the race.
