Backyard Ultra Valais Autumn Edition: INFINITY

The autumn INFINITY race is the longer format at Backyard Ultra Valais and is separate from both the spring edition and the seven-loop EXPLORER event. It follows the familiar hourly restart rhythm but ends after 38 completed loops if more than one runner remains, giving the competition a published ceiling.

Each hour begins with a 6.7056 km loop gaining about 81 metres. Runners must return in time for the next restart and continue until they stop, fail to complete a loop, or reach the 38-loop cap. An indoor base at Garden Schwab provides toilets, water, power, and a microwave between loops, but there are no showers.

Autumn in the Rhône Valley is often mild by alpine standards, but temperatures can fall quickly after dark. The repeated day-and-night loop makes dry layers, lighting, and warm recovery clothing important between starts.
