About the Alameda Island Half Marathon
OutFront Endurance's Island Running Festival gives East Bay runners a half marathon without leaving Alameda, the flat island city across the estuary from Oakland. The race benefits the Alameda Education Foundation and shares the morning with 10K, 5K, and family mile events.
Course
The half starts and finishes at Alameda Point, the former naval air station on the island's west end, and loops island streets and shoreline stretches with San Francisco Bay in view. The island has almost no elevation, so even pacing is the whole game.
Race-day weather
September mornings on the bay side of Alameda are often cool and gray at the start, with fog burning off mid-morning. Heat is rarely the problem; a cool headwind off the water is more likely.
