Quick facts

  • One of Wyoming's oldest continuous marathon weekends.
  • Runs mostly on dirt and gravel roads in Medicine Bow National Forest.
  • Starts around 8,700 feet and stays meaningfully high for the full distance.
  • Best fit for runners who want altitude and scenery more than a clean-road PR chase.

About the Wyoming Marathon

The Wyoming Marathon has a clear identity, and that identity is not urban road racing. It is an old Wyoming event that leans into altitude, space, and a rugged road surface mix rather than pretending to be a standard fast spring marathon.

Course

The race starts at the Lincoln Monument Rest Area east of Laramie and runs a scenic hilly out-and-back through Medicine Bow National Forest. Most of the marathon is on dirt and gravel roads, with altitude adding another layer even before the hills do.

Race-day weather

Race morning can be cool by temperature, but the high elevation and dry air make effort feel different here. Wind, sun exposure, and the uneven road surface all matter more than they would at a lower-elevation paved marathon.
