About the Williamsburg Bridge Marathon
Traditionally staged at night, the race begins without telling runners how far they will go. One target is drawn for the field and revealed only after the start, turning pacing and fueling into a wager against a distance that can reach 100 miles. Solo runners and relays keep crossing until their full bridge lengths cover it.
Course
Each full length of the Williamsburg Bridge counts toward the target. The route repeats between Manhattan and Brooklyn, so runners climb from both approaches, make tight turnarounds, and share the public path after dark without aid stations.
Race-day weather
The race has traditionally started at night, but early August in New York can stay warm and humid well after sunset. The exposed bridge may add a breeze, while a long distance draw can extend the effort into the early morning.
