About the West Virginia Trilogy

West Virginia Mountain Trail Runners built the Trilogy as a three-day stage race over Columbus Day weekend, with runners living out of the Spruce Knob Mountain Center between stages. The full Trilogy totals about 94 miles, and each day is also open as a standalone race.

Course

All three stages run high-country trails in the Spruce Knob-Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area of the Monongahela National Forest. Expect rocky ridgelines, spruce forest, long climbs, and remote stretches where self-sufficiency matters more than leg speed.

Race-day weather

Early October at elevation in West Virginia can open with frost and finish in warm sun, and rain or an early snow squall is realistic. Layers that work across a wide range are more useful than a single race kit.
