About the Wabash Trace Running Festival Marathon
The former Wabash Trace Nature Trail Marathon now anchors a renamed running festival. The identity changed, but the full remains the key distance and retains its role as a southwest Iowa qualifier.
Course
The marathon uses the Wabash Trace rail trail, where gentle grades and a linear corridor support sustained pacing. Trail surface, shade and crossing logistics make it different from a closed city road course.
Race-day weather
September in southwest Iowa may be cool at sunrise or warm and humid by late morning. Rain can soften the trail, while wind is more noticeable on open rural stretches.
