What to know about the Verona Run Marathon
The Verona Run Marathon turns a late-autumn Sunday in Verona into a full running festival, with the marathon joined by a half marathon and shorter races. The 42K is run on a World Athletics and FIDAL-certified road course and is recognised both as a Boston qualifier and an Abbott World Marathon Majors Age Group qualifying race. The event has a strong Italian club presence but also attracts plenty of international runners who want a fast European marathon in a compact, UNESCO-listed city. Beyond race day, Verona itself is an easy sell: Roman arena, medieval lanes, good food and wine, and everything within walking distance of the finish.
Verona Run Marathon course description
The marathon follows a single loop that starts near Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi, heads out through residential districts and then settles into long riverside stretches along the Adige. The route crosses the river several times, passes through neighbourhoods like Chievo and Parona and then turns back toward the historic centre. The closing kilometres bring you over the final bridge and into the heart of the old city, finishing in Piazza Bra in front of the Arena di Verona. The profile is mostly flat with only gentle undulations and wide, closed roads, making it well suited to even pacing and personal-best attempts.
Typical weather conditions for the Verona Run Marathon
Verona in mid November usually offers classic cool marathon weather. Typical race-day mornings sit around 5–7°C (low 40s°F) at the start and warm into the low- to mid-teens Celsius (50s°F) by late morning, with a mix of sun and cloud and a chance of light rain. Wind is rarely a major factor on the sheltered river sections, but mist and damp air can make it feel colder before the sun breaks through, so many runners start in gloves or arm warmers and shed layers as they go.
