The 50K is a separately entered and timed mountain race within The Rut weekend. Its Lone Peak exposure, technical terrain and Sunday start provide a clear distance identity.
Course
The course climbs from Big Sky Resort toward Lone Peak on steep and technical trail. Exposed ridges, loose rock and demanding descents make mountain skill as important as fitness.
Race-day weather
Mid-September at high elevation can bring sun, wind, rain, hail or snow in one day. Conditions on Lone Peak may be far colder than at the resort base.
