TCS Sydney Marathon has moved quickly from ambitious city race to full World Marathon Major, and the tone of the event reflects that jump. It now sits in a different conversation from most Australian marathons, pulling a more international field while still feeling tied to the harbour and the city itself. The appeal is not just speed. It is a scenic major with real global momentum.

The course is point-to-point from Milsons Point to the Sydney Opera House, with an early run over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and later sections through the CBD, Centennial Park, and the Royal Botanic Garden. It is visually stronger than the flatter majors, but that comes with more terrain changes and less uninterrupted rhythm.

Late August in Sydney is usually cool enough for solid marathon racing, though harbour wind and changing sun can still affect effort. It is often friendlier than hot-weather spring races, but the course profile is not as forgiving as Berlin or Chicago.
