About the Salt Lake City Marathon
This one stands out less for massive field size than for the setting. You get a real capital-city course, recognizable downtown landmarks, and a race morning that asks runners to think about transit and elevation as much as splits.
Course
The route takes runners past places such as Legacy Bridge and Temple Square while moving through central city neighborhoods and wide western streets. It is a sightseeing course with real altitude in the background, not a sea-level drag strip built purely for qualifying times.
Race-day weather
Late April in Salt Lake can deliver cool dry air at the start and surprisingly warm sun later. The dry climate can feel comfortable, but altitude and exposure can still punish runners who treat the day too casually.

Marathon Scout marks the Salt Lake City Marathon course as a Boston qualifier. Check the current Boston qualifying times and confirm current course certification with the race before registering. Starting with 2027 registration, the B.A.A. adds 5 minutes to times from courses with 1,500 to 2,999 feet of net downhill and 10 minutes to courses with 3,000 to 5,999 feet, and does not accept courses with 6,000 feet or more.
