HOKA Pacific Trails California by UTMB 50K

This newer UTMB World Series stop trades a resort start for private ranch country in California's Santa Ynez Valley. The 50K is the weekend's longest race and awards Running Stones, with direct access to OCC for the leading women and men. General entry can fill well before race week, while higher-priced community bibs may remain after ordinary places are gone.

The point-to-point route covers 51 km from Rancho San Fernando Rey. Historic ranch roads and wagon tracks make up much of the course, with singletrack dropping through oak canyons and climbing back to open ridges. About 1,550 metres of gain, repeated exposure, and a 10-hour limit make this a sustained trail effort rather than a gentle coastal run.

Mid-November on the Santa Barbara coast can begin cool, damp, and breezy before warming under direct sun. The inland ranch terrain is exposed on the ridges, so runners should be ready for a larger temperature swing than the nearby ocean suggests.
