About the Orange Blossom Half Marathon
Sommer Sports stages this race out of Frostproof Middle-Senior High School in one of Florida's old citrus-growing regions, with a 10K and 5K alongside the half. The clay-road setting is the draw: quiet grove country between Orlando and Tampa rather than a beach or theme-park course, plus a finisher blanket that has become the race's signature.
Course
More than 90 percent of the route follows hard-packed red clay roads that roll gently through active and former citrus groves along the Lake Wales Ridge. The surface is forgiving underfoot, but the grove roads are open and can feel exposed once the sun is up.
Race-day weather
Late February in central Florida usually starts in the 50s and warms quickly into the 70s. The clay roads offer little shade, so sun and rising heat shape the final miles more than wind or hills.
