Quick facts
- The USATF and collegiate titles are decided in the Saturday race only.
- Sunday's separate half carries no national title.
- The first nine miles follow the marathon course.
- Kane Creek is usually firm, but some years bring soft sand or knee-deep water.
- No race-day parking, so everyone shuttles from Helen M Knight Elementary.
Course
The race follows the first nine miles of the marathon through Pritchett Canyon and along Hunter Rim, on slickrock, singletrack, and rugged jeep track. It then descends Tricky Rock into Gatherer Canyon, climbs switchbacks toward Kane Creek Road, and takes the Hymasa Trail into Kane Creek. A short dirt road and flowing singletrack lead to the finish.
About the Moab Trail Half Marathon
The Saturday half runs alongside the Moab Trail Marathon and doubles as the USATF Trail Half Marathon Championship and the Collegiate Trail Championship, with prize money for the top five. Moab also has a separate Sunday half, added because the Saturday race fills early.
