Course
The half is an out and back from 200 State Street in downtown Cedar Falls, following the Cedar Valley trail system past Falls Waterpark and Prairie Lakes Park before turning for home. Those two parks double as the relay exchanges, which marks the natural quarters of the route. Seven aid stations cover the distance and the terrain stays gentle throughout.
Race-day weather
Early November in northeast Iowa is cold at a 7:30 start, often in the 30s, and rarely climbs far before the awards. Wind along the river corridor matters more than the thermometer, so most runners start in layers they can shed.
About the Scott Sterrett Memorial Half Marathon
Fast Track Racing has staged this race since 2019, when it began as a half marathon honoring a Cedar Falls police reserve officer who died of pancreatic cancer. It stays a community race rather than a destination event, with fields near a hundred half marathoners and a post-race gathering a block from the hotels. Proceeds go to a scholarship for high school seniors headed into first responder careers.
