Quick facts
- Full marathon hosted at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya.
- Organised by Tusk with Lewa and Safaricom involvement.
- Two-loop dirt-road course through conservancy terrain.
- Known for a demanding race setting rather than a fast road layout.
- Event-maintained results are published through the Lewa race site.
Course
The full marathon uses two loops of a 13-mile dirt-road route through savannah, river-bank, and acacia woodland terrain inside the conservancy. The surface, heat, and wildlife-safety logistics make it very different from a city marathon.
Race-day weather
Race day is usually dry and exposed, with cool early conditions giving way to stronger sun. The dirt roads and limited shade make hydration and steady effort more important than even pacing.
About the Lewa Safari Marathon
Lewa Safari Marathon is a long-running Kenyan race hosted by Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and organised by Tusk. Its appeal is the setting and difficulty: runners race inside a working conservancy rather than on closed city streets.
