Course
The half is two loops of park road, asphalt the whole way with no off-road sections. The road winds and undulates constantly under a canopy of trees, so there is no long flat stretch to settle into. The start and finish sit at the Lake Norman picnic ground on the waterfront.
Race-day weather
Early June in the Carolina piedmont is the defining factor. A 7:30 AM start can already be in the 70s with heavy humidity, and the tree cover helps with sun but traps moisture. Fluid planning matters more here than it would for the same course in April.
