About the Kirikiriroa Marathon
Kirikiriroa uses Hamilton's Māori place name and keeps a strong community-race feel from its base at Hamilton Gardens. Marathoners share portions of the day with relay runners while covering the full riverside route.
Course
Pavers, concrete paths, and wooden boardwalks combine with about 350 meters of climbing. The route moves from Hamilton Gardens onto the Te Awa River Path, uses several turnarounds, and gives marathoners eight hours to finish. The event is cupless.
Race-day weather
June is early winter in Hamilton, so cool air, damp paths, and rain are realistic. Wooden boardwalks and pavers may become slick, while cloud cover can keep conditions comfortable for a long day out.
