Quick facts
- Boston-qualifying marathon on Long Island.
- Looped course on fully closed park roads.
- 6-hour marathon cutoff.
- Half marathon and 5K share race day.
Course
The marathon stays on fully closed park roads in a looped format. That makes spectating easy and removes traffic stress, but the repetition also means pacing and wind management matter more than constant scenery changes.
Race-day weather
Late March on Long Island can bring a cold start and a steady coastal breeze. Even when temperatures look reasonable, open park roads can make the effort feel tougher than the forecast suggests.
About the Heckscher State Park Marathon
Heckscher is more local-club race than big-city production. GLIRC pairs the marathon with a half and 5K inside the park, so the appeal is simple logistics, solid support, and an early-season chance to race hard without a lot of travel friction.
