About the Halstead & Essex Marathon

Halstead Road Runners created this marathon in the 1990s and still gives it the feel of a race organized by runners for runners. Club volunteers, local groups, and charitable giving remain central to the event.

Course

The measured full explores quiet back roads through North Essex farmland, woods, and rolling hills. Nearly all of the route is on roads with little traffic, apart from a short section in the final mile, so the course rewards strength over pure speed.

Race-day weather

May in Essex often brings a cool or mild start, but sunshine can warm the open farmland quickly. Light rain and breeze are also common possibilities, with shaded woods creating small temperature changes.
