Course
The marathon covers 42.2 km from Neuhaus am Rennweg to Schmiedefeld. It climbs and drops through forest paths, villages, and the Rennsteig ridge, with the high point around Masserberg and a late climb into the finish area. It is a pacing and footing race, not a flat road marathon.
Race-day weather
Early May in the Thuringian Forest can be cool, damp, and changeable. Tree cover helps on sunny stretches, but wind, wet ground, and colder ridge sections can matter late in the race.
