Duke City Marathon showcases Albuquerque's bosque and Rio Grande paths on a high-desert course, with cool fall air, open views, and certified racing.
Quick facts
- Albuquerque's established fall marathon.
- Rio Grande bosque and paved path course.
- High-altitude racing in a dry desert climate.
About the Duke City Marathon
New Mexico's long-running Duke City event brings a full marathon and shorter races to Albuquerque each fall. The river corridor keeps the route scenic while the city's altitude adds a real test.
Course
The certified course uses paved roads and multi-use paths through the Rio Grande bosque. It is not mountainous, but Albuquerque's elevation and exposed sections can make the effort deceptive.
Race-day weather
October mornings in Albuquerque are often cold, sunny, and dry, with quick warming after sunrise. Low humidity helps, while wind and altitude increase fluid needs.
