Course
The half starts among the downtown high-rises, works through the newer riverfront blocks, and finishes with a lap of Gray's Lake in one of the largest urban parks in the country. Flat and paved throughout, with most of the second half on park trail.
Race-day weather
Early May in Iowa is usually mild at an 8 a.m. start, though humidity and a warming second hour are both realistic. Wind across the open water at Gray's Lake is the other thing worth planning for.
