About the IMT Des Moines Marathon
IMT Des Moines Marathon is Iowa's signature marathon and reaches its 25th running in 2026. The event offers the scale and support of a major regional race while remaining a comparatively accessible fall goal marathon.
Course
The marathon starts and finishes in East Village, crossing downtown before reaching the Drake neighborhood, Valley Junction, Water Works Park and Gray's Lake. Roads and paved paths make up most of the route, with a lap on the Drake track.
Race-day weather
Mid-October in central Iowa can be cold, mild, windy, or all three during the race. Open streets make wind direction a more important pacing factor than the flat profile suggests.
