Quick facts

  • Start and finish at the Pioneers Museum in downtown Colorado Springs.
  • Out-and-back on the Greenway and Santa Fe trails with cement, pea gravel, and paved sections.
  • The city sits at roughly 6,000 feet, so altitude affects pacing for sea-level runners.
  • Race weekend includes a half marathon, 5K, and kids race.

About the Colorado Springs Marathon

Colorado's second-largest city hosts a fall marathon built on its trail network rather than closed boulevards. The race starts and finishes at the Pioneers Museum downtown, and the thin air shapes goal setting more than the elevation profile does. Race weekend adds a half marathon, 5K, and kids race.

Course

From downtown, the route heads west on Colorado Avenue, drops into America the Beautiful Park, then turns north on the Greenway Trail through Monument Valley Park and onto the Santa Fe Trail before retracing to the finish. Surfaces are mixed, with cement in the first mile, a stretch of hard-packed pea gravel, and paved trail for most of the distance.

Race-day weather

Early October mornings in Colorado Springs often start near freezing and warm quickly once the sun is up. The air is dry and the sun is strong at altitude, so layers that shed easily and steady fluids matter more than rain planning.
